Teaching & Consultation

I teach classes at the Avenue Road Art School.

Painting from the heart

A weekend to create more freedom, fun, calm, joy and non-judgement in your life.

In our Painting from the heart workshops, you’ll explore a whole new way of painting and being, from a space of freedom, non-judgment and joy and intuition. You’ll learn to loosen up, let go of expectations, have fun and allow your art and life to unfold naturally.

The emphasis will be on finding your true voice and allowing your personal expression to bloom and grow with flow and ease. There are no mistakes here and all levels of experience with art are welcome. The goal is to gather with the intention to let go more fully, connect more authentically with ourselves and others, step more bravely into the unknown and invite calm and joy into the creative process…and into your life!

This class is for everyone - the experienced artist and the person with no experience with art at all (kids age 12 and up are welcome at half price ). You’ll walk away from the weekend with 4 fabulous pieces of art and a set of tools to move your life into a place of more freedom, calm, joy and non-judgement. We’re going to supply all the materials all you need to do is show up!

Stay tuned to dates and time!

An evening to create more fun, freedom, calm, joy and non-judgement

Hosting an Art Night

Hosting an Art Night in your home is a great way to connect with friends in a different way and have a really fun “feel good” evening. We’ll come to your home with all the supplies and lead a fun and transformational evening  that will bring out the inner creative voice and quiet the inner critic whether guests are inclined to art or have never touched a brush.

  • Learn to relax loosen up and enjoy life more
  • Feel more freedom and inspiration
  • Move forward on creative projects you’ve been stalled out on
  • Connect with friends in a fun way

Why Art Night?

We love art and have experienced profound healing and joy through it. Art is one of the best ways to relax and quiet the mind. Guests will leave feeling inspired, happy with new tools for living a more stress-free joyful life and a fabulous piece of art.

Children’s Book Illustration (Adults)

This program teaches students how to create inspiring and unique illustrations for children. Illustrations in children’s books are used to bring out a narrative so that the pictures tell the story. The focus of the class is on the process of creating these effective illustrations, while students develop skills in drawing, painting and storyboarding. The class will offer plenty of guidance as they investigate a variety of children’s books and a multitude of illustration styles. Material list provided.

Introduction to Illustration (Adults)

If you love to draw and have an interest in design, then this course is perfect for you. Based on building strong drawing skills and conceptual thinking, this program will provide students with the knowledge and skills to create effective communications and artful images that function as a complement to any written work. Illustrations can be seen in newspapers, books, magazines, reports, advertising, posters, CD covers, packaging, websites, concept art, and the list goes on. Students have the ability to discover their artistic voice by working on a range of different projects. A brief introduction on finishing art projects digitally will also be a part of the lecture component of the program, and students will learn about the important elements of a portfolio that are needed for target audiences, should the student wish to take their work to the next level. Material list provided.

Steps to Becoming An Illustrator

You have the dream, but how do you move forward. I get emails every week from people wanting to pursue an illustration career but not sure how to do it. They like to draw but don’t really have a portfolio together. This consulting plan is designed to help you find your style, get a portfolio together, know how to market yourself and what to expect when a job comes in.

There are some helpful tools that will make your life SO much easier as an illustrator so if you were able to have these items (or at least access to them) during consulting that would be great:

  • Computer
  • Sketchbook
  • Scanner
  • Photoshop (it’s pricey but worth it, if you can’t afford it, look into Photoshop Elements) - (note from Sonny - students can get it for $20/ month)
  • Crazy passion and motivation!!!

2 months of consulting will consist of 2 “scheduled” emails a week or one in class session a week with a critique session via Skype or phone.

1 email on Mondays to get you geared up for the week and “assignments” on way to do that week.
